Got Women?

Does the slogan/phrase sound familiar? If not, let me make it clearer for you, “Got Milk?”

“And on his farm he had a cow E-I-E-I-O With a moo moo here And a moo moo there Here a moo, there a moo Everywhere a moo moo…”

Oh yes, and it takes us back to the one and only cow that we know that provides us with CALCIUM. So how does one cow get connected to women doing milk ads? Hmmm…here’s an idea, society thinks women are only on this earth to show off their body and to bare children. Well on one of the “Got Milk” ads, they feature Gisele Bundchen, a Victoria’s Secret model.

However, the ad is promoting “strong bones” and nothing about this image promotes “strong bones”. It shows Gisele sitting on the sand barely covering her body with a towel. If you wanted to show how strong she really was, you should have photographed her lifting something heavy with actually WEARING clothes. Now THAT promotes STRONG BONES, not an image of her clothes where it’s obvious that once again, people just see her for her physical beauty. In this other photo, they show Kate Moss featured in the ad as well.

Here they are complementing how milk is good for your “bones bones bones” and then at the end, supposedly Kate Moss says “besides, haven’t you heard the waif look is out?” Uhm, hate to break it to you Moss, but you are naked…Naked holding a glass of milk. That look, to me, has HOMELESS written all over it. Can’t you afford clothes? You holding up that glass of milk naked really show how strong you are?

Once again, women were being exploited for their bodies in these ads. How about they start showing how STRONG and INDEPENDENT women really are? We are not all about beauty, we are more than that. and a blog called R.A.N.D.T.S that I stumbled about talked about exactly THAT. It was about how women were perceived in today’s society and I was shocked to find what men thought of women.

These were the main points the writer shared with its readers:

How do guys normally perceive women?

  • As a companion who gives extra support and attention.

  • Women are complicated and difficult to understand

  • Dislike women who try too hard to prove men wrong.

  • Sports are generally for men.

  • Women who flaunt their sexuality (sexy, sultry etc.) are attractive.

  • When in a relationship, women are disallowed to see male friends.

In another article similar to the R.A.N.D.T.S blog, How a Strong Successful Woman Can Attract a Good Man,it shares a list of masculine and feminine energies. As I was going through the list, I found it very interesting that once again, all the feminine energies are portrayed as the delicate ones and the masculine energies are the more aggressive ones. Here’s the list if you’d like to see it for yourself:

  • Independent (masculine energy) Friendly & Receptive (feminine energy)

  • Driven & Take-charge (masculine energy) Nurturing & Cooperative (feminine energy)

  • Guarded & Analytical (masculine energy) Vulnerable (feminine energy)

  • Assertive & Firm (masculine energy) Graceful & Gentle (feminine energy)

  • Upfront & Straightforward (masculine energy) Subtle & Unassuming (feminine energy)

  • Active & Intense (masculine energy) Sensitive & Compassionate (feminine energy)

  • Decisive & Risk-Taker (masculine energy) Intuitive & Compassionate (feminine energy)

  • Outwardly Curious (masculine energy) Internally Centered (feminine energy)

  • Make It Happen (masculine energy) Dream & Imagine (feminine energy)

For those who are more visual oriented, I took it upon myself to create a graph of portraying both the masculine and feminine energies (the blue color is a representation of the masculine energies and the pink color is a representation of femenine energies):

It’s like men can’t get over the physical aspect of women and really pay attention to what they have to say. That, or men are just intimidated by women because they know we can do the exact same job they can do and even better, they just don’t want to admit it. In a Pew Research study for Equal Treatment for Men and Women, it showed that men either prefer having other men as co-workers or it didn’t really matter to them. However, there was a really small percentage where men actually preferred to work with women.

There are millions of women who can do it all; working an 8-5 job and let’s not forget that after they get out of work, they probably go to their second job, which in this case it’s their HOME. It’s crazy to think there are various ethnicity/religious beliefs/values that portray women in a certain way. It’s almost considered to be frowned upon when women are independent and have a stable full time successful job. I was shocked to see in a reality show called Shahs of Sunset how women were being treated by men. There’s a scene where it shows Asifa and her husband (cast members of the show) having a conversation with her husband and he mentions how she should be living up to her “housewife role”, but Asifa did not stay silent. She replied with:

  • “A real Persian wife would be giving him breakfast in bed. I will do whatever I can to please my man, but I am not a robot. When you are with a woman who works full time and has a career, do not expect a housekeeper wife.”

AMEN to that sister, and most women feel the same way. Not only Asifa’s husband but other men expect women to:

And you are totally right Asa (cast member of Shahs of Sunset), society expects women to do exactly that, to “just sit there and be pretty”. There’s this famous saying in Spanish, “calladita te ves más bonita”, that all Spanish speakers are way too familiar with. That phrase translates to “keeping quiet/silent, you are that much more attractive”, which as you can see, sexism exists EVERYWHERE. We grew up in a society where they see us as weak, fragile and lack of confidence. Like in this video:

Women are used as sex objects 24/7 and we need to put an end to it. We are as equal as men are. We can do the exact same things men can do and BETTER. So with that being said, here’s a video I made that I thought you guys would enjoy watching. In this video you will see the roles reversed of men and women. Enjoy!
